Corra Group Attends the 2018 ATX Conference

Corra Group recently attended the 2018 ATX Automation Technology Show, in Anaheim, California. The show is branded as the largest design manufacturing conference in North America’s, and a “don’t miss experience.” Hundreds of exhibitors have on display and in demo mode products for automation technology, robotics, and 3 D Printing.

“Corra Group is based in El Segundo, California,” said Corra Group Co-Founder, Gordon Basichis. El Segundo is one of the premier centers for defense, aerospace, robotics, and advanced technology. In El Segundo, some of the major innovators in this space are our neighbors. Corra Group offers its employment screening services to these companies as well as to business entities national and globally. With all the changes in the working environment, automation and robotics are key components in the expanding modern industries.

“The ATX Automation Technology Show was a major success,” said Basichis. “There were far more exhibitors than last year, and attendance had to be triple of what it was for the previous show. When I spoke to clients and other exhibitors, they told me business were coming to buy. Companies had extra financial allocations, based on the recent corporate tax cuts, and now they were looking to upgrade their manufacturing facilities.”

Basichis noted that the technology has improved in just the past year. He pointed out that the robots were cheaper, faster, and more sophisticated. He cited how some didn’t require their own power source but could run simply by plugging them into any standard electric outlet.

San Francisco Becomes Fifth City to “Ban the Box”

San Francisco is the fifth city to legislate for employment screening what is commonly known as “Ban the Box.”

Some  believe that by banning the box, meaning where the job candidate is not required to check the box asking if he as criminal records, will level the playing field.  The belief is the human resources manager will not be prejudiced by previous criminal convictions before assessing the candidate’s capability and skill sets.  Proponents believe it helps dilute discriminatory practices.

Opponents believe it puts more pressure on employers to determine criminal histories and how it may impact the job.  The employer must now use  increased background checks to search for additional evidence of criminal behavior.  Opponents also argue that if an employment candidate is of a demographic where criminal behavior is more prevalent, they might automatically reject the client offhand and not numberswiki.com

request an interview.   Opponents also point to the dangers of employer negligence where the employer is potentially liable if the candidate with criminal records snaps out on the job and kills or injures other staff members.  the refrain–“Why didn’t they discover this person was a criminal and capable of violent action?

The idea behind ban the box is not only to quell discriminatory practices during the initial stages of employment screening but to try to give qualified candidates, who had mess up in their lives, and second chance.  In a tough job market this is often easier said than done. As a nation of second chances, in spirit at least it can be a viable solution.  But like most things theoretical, there may be some issue.  But until we know the results, it is certainly worth a try.

Charlie Crist Cites New Background Check Law to Protect Floridians

Florida Governor, Charlie Crist, gave praise to a new law designed to protect the elderly and the young from malevolent care givers serving mainly the young and the old.   According to the Florida Newswire, House Bill 7069, mandates employees pass  state and federal fingerprint screening, equivalent to a level 2 background check, before they are eligible to work  with elderly, children and persons with disabilities in certain care settings.   The same holds true for health care employees working in residential or home care settings.  They must have a Level 2 screening before having contact with clients, or having access to client property, funds or living areas.

Governor Crist signed this bill into law earlier this year.   It is a good bill and shows that the State of Florida is determined to protect its more vulnerable citizens by requiring background checks on its caregivers.   I have written about this matter before, including one article entitled, Ongoing Need for Background Checks for Florida Caregivers.   This new law results from a review ordered by Governor Crist where select state agencies examined legal requirements for screening individuals who provide care to children, the elderly and persons with disabilities to review current background-screening policies.

There conclusion, obviously, was for more rigorous background checks.   We at Corra Group applaud Governor Crist and those who voted in favor of House Bill 7069.  This should add a little more punch to the background checks conducted on those who may consider malicious behavior toward Florida’s young and old.

Corra Group discusses Ryan Jenkins Background Check with CanalPlus Cable French Television

Corra Group founders Gordon Basichis and Nick Gustavson discussed Ryan Jenkins’ background check with French Cable News Station CanalPlus. The interview was conducted in English, but overdubbed in French for the French television audience.

Ryan Jenkins, Reality TV contestant who later murdered his wife Jasmine Fiore, passed a Canadian criminal background check as part of the vetting process to join the cast of Megan Wants a Millionaire. Apparently, the Canadian Provincial Court Clerk was unable to locate any criminal records on Ryan Jenkins. Canada has since revised their reporting procedures and included new safeguards for reporting Provincial Criminal Records as well as the Canadian National Criminal Search or CPIC.
