For those who conduct the Illinois State Criminal Non-Database Search as part of your preemployment background checks, we want to alert you that there will be a significant delay in the turnaround time.   The Illinois State Police, Bureau of Identification today that their server had a major crash on Saturday, August 21, 2010.     It will take a week at least to install a new server.    Until they can return searches that are backlogged in the system, it will take even longer still

So, all in all, it will be some time before the Illinois State Criminal records will be returned to full service.  For those employers in need of conducting background checks in Illinois for the time being you may want to consider running County Criminal Records Checks.    The County Criminal Records have not been affected by the server crash.

In the meantime, we will let you know when full service for the Illinois State Criminal Records has been restored.

County Criminal Records are on of the more important background checks for any preemployment screening program.  The County Criminal background checks are the most exact as they are pulled from the county courts.   Not only will the county criminal records show criminal records that have disposition, they will also reveal pending cases where the outcome of the charges is still undecided.   This, of course, is handy when considering an employment candidate as as an employer you don’t want to hire someone for a job and then discover he will soon be convicted of offenses that would typically cause his rejection.

Of course with this poor economy, the states are struggling with budgetary considerations, as are the counties and cities.   Some states have mandated furloughs, which force the closing of everything from the Department of Motor Vehicles to the County Courts and other public agencies.

We would like to take this opportunity to notify you in advance of the following

California and Vermont Court closures.  As a cost savings measure, the courts

have pre-established dates of furlough and are listed below.  Should we

encounter additional notifications, we will send additional memorandums.

The New Jersey Motor Vehicle Driving  Records will increase today by $2.00.   The MVR Driving  Fee was formerly $10, but as of today it is going up to $12.00.

The New Jerseydriving record is one of several state MVR fees that has increased or will be increasing in the near future.  Corra Group will keep you informed as the these state background checks are adjusted to presumbably offset the state budgetary deficits and their economic difficulties.

For those ordering MVR Motor Vehicle Driving Records background checks, please be aware that as of July 1st, 2009 Ohio has raised its State DMV Fee from $2 to $5 per records search.

The State of Vermont has, as of July 1st, 2009, also raised its MVR Driving Record fee from $13 per search to $14 per search.

The USCIS issued a press release today announcing that the current Form I-9 Employment Eligibility Form, will continue to be valid beyond its June 30, 2009 expiration date. USCIS has requested that the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) approve the continued use of the current version of Form I-9. While this request is pending, the Form I-9 (Rev. 02/02/09) will not expire.
USCIS will update Form I-9 when the extension is approved. Employers will be able to use either the Form I-9 with the new revision date or the Form I-9 with the 02/02/09 revision date at the bottom of the form.

on Monday, February 16, 2009.  Some minor delays may occur for some

county criminal records and some county civil records search results.

Government agencies including courthouses will be closed in observance of Martin Luther King,

Jr. Day on Monday, January 19, 2009. Minor delays may occur for some
