Hurricane Joaquin to Cause Possible Court Delays on East Coast

If you are conducting county civil records or criminal records background checks for employment screening purposes, please be aware that there may be delays due to Hurricane Joaquin thatis threatening the East Coast of the United States.

 

We would like to take this opportunity to notify you of possible search delays along the East Coast that may occur throughout the next week as a result of Hurricane Joaquin.

Some Guidelines for New York City Compliance Mandates for Employment Screening

Pam Devata, of the employment law firm Seyfarth Shaw, has published a white paper offering guidelines on the updated New York City compliance mandates for employment screening processes in that city.  It is a most informative document, one that may have significant impact on your hiring process and your disclosure forms.

Earlier this year, the New York City Council passed two laws which place limitations on an employer’s ability to use background checks including credit checks (otherwise known as consumer reports) in employment decisions: the Fair Chance Act (“FCA”) and the Stop Credit Discrimination in Employment Act (“SCDEA”).
