A New Twist in the Trucking Industry

Corra Group provides services for the trucking and transportation industry.  We assist our clients with remaining in compliance with the Department of Transportation standards.    We have any number of services  regarding background checking and employment screening packages for the trucking and transportation industry. So, naturally, when we see an innovative take like this we report it.  An Uber-like twist on the trucking industry where truck drivers are texted jobs and can show up at the depot and loading docks for work.

As the Wall Street Journal article reports, some new startup companies will help reinvent the trucking industry and how businesses are conducted.

According to the article…”A series of startups are vying to become an “Uber of trucking,” leveraging truck drivers’ smartphones to quickly connect them with nearby companies looking to ship goods. The upstarts aim to reinvent a fragmented U.S. trucking industry that has long relied on third-party brokers, essentially travel agents for trucking who connect truckers with customers.”

We shall see if it takes hold.

Business School Owner Gets Jail Term for Fake Diplomas

Diploma mills have been around for some time now.   What is a diploma mill?   That is where you are given a degree from an unaccredited college or university in exchange for a few hundred bucks.  Sometimes you have to take a perfunctory test, or submit to a brief reading.  Most often the degree is given for no other reason than “live experience” and the money the scam artists want you to part with.  And it is a scam.  Make no mistake.

When Corra Group receives an order for an education verification background check, and we see it is from a diploma mill, we notify the client right away that this is indeed a bogus diploma.  It is not happy news for any client, but it saves embarrassing and potentially litigious circumstances.

In the latest go around with diploma mills, Ben Yap Chee Mun was sentenced to five and half years for running a fraudulent business school and issuing fake degrees.  Fake degrees are quite prevalent with foreign job applicants, by the way.   According to the Strait Times…”Yap would train employees to sell various degree programmes purportedly offered by the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT) and one Brookes University. However, Brookes Business School was not authorised to offer RMIT programmes and Brookes University was in fact a sham institution set up by Yap.”

According the article, students paid between and average of $10 to $20 thousand, of which the “directors,” Yap’s sales people received somewhere between forty to sixty percent of the take.  More profitable and your every day vertical marketing scheme.

Corra Group Prepares Its Staff for the Autumn Production Season for the Entertainment Industry

Corra Group Prepares Its Staff for the Autumn Production Season for the Entertainment Industry

Corra Group is increasing its resources to meet the demands of the autumn production season for the entertainment and media industry. Typically, television production companies and advertising agencies, especially, will start their development for the forthcoming broadcast seasons or for various advertising campaigns.

“This is one of the times of the year when film, television, new media, and advertising agencies contact us for background checks that are relevant to their industries,” said Corra Group Co-Founder, Gordon Basichis. “The production houses are preparing their reality shows, especially, and the advertising agencies are interviewing talent for major television, radio, and digital commercials. Let’s face it, the last thing they need is a nut job on one of their shows. And I don’t say this to be glib. It has actually happened before.

“We are discussing with current clients and new prospects what they see as their background searching needs for the coming season. Since I have a show business background, I am always happy to talk with ad and production people. But Corra Group is making sure its newer employees are trained in the particulars of the entertainment and advertising industries.”

Basichis pointed out with Corra Group headquartered in El Segundo, it naturally has entreaties from production houses in Hollywood. He noted they also have clients, in New York, San Francisco, Chicago, and Miami.

“Recently, we provided background checks to production companies in the United Kingdom,” said Basichis. “Our main contact there told us they had other projects in pre-production and are preparing them for the new fall season.”

Basichis explained that with show business and advertising, there is no one size fits all for background searches. Each medium may have special needs, and each projection needs a particular entertainment package of background checks.

“We offer several background screening packages for the entertainment and media industry,” said Basichis. We also can customize packages so we are addressing the specific needs of any production or ad campaign. And then, of course, we offer comprehensive employment screening packages for in-house hires.
