Corra Group Assists Trucking Companies with their Compliance Background Checks as the Industry Shows a Downturn

As the Trucking and Transportation Industry experiences a variety of challenges facing the early quarter of 2015, Corra Group is assisting truckers with their Department of Transportation compliance mandates by offering discounted pricing on motor vehicle driving records and other employment screening services. According to a January 22nd article on CNN, the trucking industry as a whole may see as much as 20 thousand layoffs by June, with most of it related to the drivers in the oil and gas related industries.

“We are seeing a drop in new hires with our trucking clients who service the oil and natural gas industries,” said Corra Group Co-Founder, Gordon Basichis. “It was booming for quite a few years, but now with the declining price of gas and, especially, oil, there isn’t the demand there was for drivers just a couple of years ago.

“The energy industry has been to some extent a rags to riches situation,” said Basichis. “With so many oil and gas fields up in North Dakota, Oklahoma, Texas, and so many other states, it was as if Christmas came early for a good many truckers. The work is tough, but the pay is rewarding. When it is booming truckers are in high demand. But now, that is not so much the case. When there’s talk of laying off some twenty thousand drivers, that can prove damaging to the industry, especially, and the economy, overall.”

Corra Group Adds Medical Sanctions Background Check for Facilities Required to Monitor Their Healthcare Workers

In response to increased requests for the monitoring of healthcare sanctions, Corra Group has added a new healthcare monitoring system that will help keep medical facilities compliant with government compliance guidelines. The new healthcare monitoring system will allow hospitals, recruiters, and any entity within healthcare to monitor their personnel on a monthly basis.

“The new healthcare sanctions background check will return any sanctions and disciplinary actions imposed by the OIG or Office of Inspector General,” said Corra Group Co-Founder, Nick Gustavson. “Those on the excluded parties will also be listed, including those excluded by the State and Federal Medicaid agencies. The background check will search the SAM directories for other exclusions or disciplinary action for doctors and nurses, pharmacists, licensed physical therapists and any other licensing category within the healthcare industry.

“Corra Group has long offered the FACIS Level 3Healthcare Sanctions background check,” said Gustavson. “While the FACIS 3 is the top of the line background search, the two other systems will meet compliance mandates while appealing to our client’s budgetary concerns. These systems are user friendly and priced competitively. A client can add or subtract its employees from the monitoring list as it sees fit.”

A Strong Job Market–Before You Hire, Be Sure to Do Your Background Checks

The job market is more robust than it has been in years.   This is no secret.  As the economy transits out of a competitive job market to one where the employment candidate has some advantage, it is clear employers have to move faster in order to hire the more talented applicants, those most suited for their working environment.

According to an article in Bloomberg…”Companies recognize it’s getting harder to find employees, so they’re making their hiring decisions more quickly, Joerres added. Employers now take about three months on average to hire a worker from the time they put in a request with Manpower. That’s down 30 percent from about 18 months ago.”

So one bit of caution.  Never be in so much of a hurry to hire a job candidate that you don’t conduct a thorough package of background checks. Employment screening is a necessity in a world where there are far too many surprises potentially about an applicant’s checkered past.
