In the Trucking Industry, Good Drivers are Hard to Find

Stock shares in Swift Transportation declined the other day on the news one of the largest trucking firms in the country was having difficulty finding drivers.  We at Corra Group hear this from a number of our trucking clients.  Good help is hard to find.   Since we service the trucking industry and offer Motor Vehicle Driving Records and other background checks that service the employment screening needs of the trucking industry, we hear the recovery  in the economy has exacerbated the problem.  Good help is hard to find.

According to the article in Yahoo Finance….The American Trucking Association has warned the country is short 30,000 drivers, and that the gap could climb to 200,000 in the next decade.”

This is a significant concern for those especially who are shipping their products across the country.  Corra Group has seen a number of startup companies that conduct our employment screening trucking packages.   Where it is initially a family operation and then expands as the enterprise becomes more successful.   It is difficult to say at this point whether the starts will be the answer to the shortage of drivers, but maybe part of the solution is not with the larger companies.   Typically, where there is demand in the market, there is ultimately supply.

The expanding American energy boom has motivated Corra Group to seek ways to better facilitate its Department of Transportation employment screening as trucking companies seek to hire truckers for work in the gas and oil fields. As it has been reported from such venues as Bloomberg and other news sources, with the United States surpassing Saudi Arabia as the world’s largest oil producer, the El Segundo based background screening company sees increased activity among its trucking clients.

“There is a rash of activity within the trucking industry as the different companies seek to hire drivers for work in the gas and oil fields,” said Gordon Basichis, Corra Group Co-Founder. “There is also an expansion in the trucking and transportation industry itself as we see more startups in the business.

“All trucking companies and their commercial drivers must comply with the mandates of the Department of Transportation,” said Basichis. “These mandates include everything in our employment screening trucking package from drug tests to motor vehicle driving records or MVR’s. Trucking entities must conduct DOT related employment screening verifications on its new drivers and three years on its current drivers. There is the issue of criminal background checks, physicals, and the prudent review of a driver’s previous safety records.”

Basichis noted that trucking companies are so busy with their day-to-day operations that often the compliance mandates are in different stages of management. He pointed out that with startup companies, especially; they are not entirely familiar with what guidelines they must follow in order to remain compliant.

“We try to help these trucking companies get organized,” said Basichis. “We offer drug testing, CDL driving records, employment verification, and for the larger companies we offer Fleet Alert, which can tell your managers in real time when your drivers encounter accidents or violations.

Pinellas, Florida Search Delays

We would like to take this opportunity to notify you of delays for all pending and future orders in Pinellas, FL.

The court has advised that they are currently in the process of updating their court system, and have removed all access to any court cases filed after July 3, 2014. As a result, a search to date cannot be completed at the predominately used index at this time, or through the court clerks.  An estimated completion date has been provided for July 14th, however access to the new system in not anticipated until a few weeks after while the court works to enter all new case data.

During this time we are offering an alternate option to complete any new searches, returning results through July 3, 2014.  Then at the point that the court conversion is complete we will re-run all requests placed during this time and provide an update report with any cases  filed from July 3rd on.

At this time we will hold all new searches requests until the system conversion is complete, unless otherwise indicated that you would like to proceed with the alternate option we have in place.

We appreciate your patience with delays encountered during this transition and sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

El Segundo, CA (PRWEB) June 30, 2014

In seeing the robust hiring within the healthcare industry, Corra Group is offering a wider range ofbackground checks  to this burgeoning economic sector. With the understanding that hospitals, healthcare facilities, and recruiters all have different challenges in determining their employment screening requirements, the El Segundo, California based company is customizing packages for their current and future needs.

“Healthcare workers can be domestic, but they also come from around the world,” said Nick Gustavson, Corra Group Co-Founder. “Employment screening searches will vary according to where the candidate is from, where they worked previously, and where they went to college.

“With the growth of the industry, human resources managers increasingly find themselves hiring job applicants who have been working in the United States, but who were educated in a foreign country,” said Gustavson. “Their needs then for background checks are different. The HR Manager needs to conduct country criminal records checks and healthcare sanctions here in the United States. But then to meet compliance standards, they may also need to conduct international education verification as well as domestic and international employment verification. In short, their employment screening package will vary from the straight American hire.”
