A Sad Comment on Our Times When Schools Have to Prepare for Workplace Violence

Workplace violence has been on the increase for several years now.  There have been several reports depicting the tribulations of healthcare workers, especially, and how they have to deal with everything from verbal abuse to physical assaults.  There is the type of workplace violence that is interior, meaning one worker threatening or assaulting another.  There is another type where an outsider, but someone known to the staff, say a significant other, enters the workplace and commits violence.  And then there is the outsider who invades the workplace wishing to cause bodily harm.

It’s an unfortunate sign of the times that schools today are now preparing their students for possible workplace violence.  As we all know, there have been several tragic incidents where kids and teachers have been wounded and killed on the campus.

According to the West Central Tribune,  Minnesota school students are now being trained for the possibility of workplace violence.

According to the article…”Along with conducting regular fire drills, Minnesota school students are now required to practice how to respond to an active shooter in the building. Schools practice because of an increasing number of deadly events all across the country.”

Once upon a time all we had to worry about is our kids not getting bullied by the bigger students and whether or not they get good grades.  Now, sadly, it has come to this.
