California has found delays in its program to provide free background checks for healthcare workers in the state. According to the Los Angeles Times, the decision was designed through SB 692 to provide free background checks for healthcare workers. But conflicting statutes and bureaucratic snafus have caused delays in the program.
I implemented, finally, this could do the healthcare industry a lot of good. There have been joint studies by the Pro Public Group and the Los Angeles Times detailing how various healthcare workers with criminal records are working presently in California. Some are sex offenders, and some have substance abuse issues, and then there are the more typical criminal records. Not good as the frail and elderly as well as the young can then become prime targets for victimization. I have blogged about this on different occasions. One recent article is entitled, California Nurses Working Here While Sanctioned Elsewhere.
Because of the economy, budgetary constraints may play a factor in implementing these background checks for healthcare workers. Given the importance of background checks for healthcare workers, it is up to background screening companies like Corra Group to take up the slack.
