If you believe background checks are pretty strident in the United States, I suggest you read this wonderful article on the Chinese background checking system, featured on the Danwei website.   The article is entitled, Political Background Check of a Petitioner’s Daughter.

The article depicts the true challenges one young Chinese who was trying to gain admission to a university.   She undertoook what is politely called the “political inspection” aspect.   The political inspection certifies that the applicant has a clean criminal records,  does not belong to any cults,  is not a gang member, and so forth.   Ther eis also another possible hurdle.  In this case the young woman’s father petitioned Because her father had once petitioned his village to repay a loan he made.   For his efforts, the man was detained for three days.

His dention almost queered his daughter’s efforts to gain admission to the University.  I suggest that everyone read this store.

Find it here at  The Political BackgroundCheck of a Petitioner’s Daughter.   It will giv eyou food for thought, especially around the time of our own Independence Day.
